Movie Seen - Goodbye Bafana

The story of James Gregory, one of Nelson Mandela's prison guards. A controversial movie that might be more fiction than fact.

The movie itself is just about average. It's a bit robotic in nature, with each new sequence of scenes covering one episode of the guard's life, without many connectors in between.

Hi, If you like African movies or movies about Africa, can highly recommend "Tsotsi" and "The Power of One" with Morgan Freeman.

Hi Nadja,

Saw Tsotsi quite recently actually. Will look out for 'The Power of One', thanks.

How's your film on the agrarian crisis coming along?

I agree about the movie, the narrative is quite fragmented. If anyone's a big Africa fan, I must recommend Wilbur Smith's books. I'm not sure but I think a few have been made into movies but don't bother with them. Just catch the books. Wilbur Smith depicts Africa in ways never before seen. I read all his books as a kid and loved them.

Oh yeah, I used to read Wilbur Smith when I was younger too. A lot of history in his books, and his Egyptian series taught me a lot.
